For bulk storage, barely. A 7200 RPM drive beats 5400 on random access, but a homelab's bottleneck is usually the network or the array rather than the spindle. 10K and 15K SAS drives spin faster at real cost in noise, heat, capacity and power — they were built for databases, not media libraries.
