A 1U server at full fan speed is comparable to a vacuum cleaner and is not liveable in a bedroom or an open-plan flat. 2U and 4U chassis use larger, slower fans and are meaningfully quieter. Tower servers and mini PCs are quiet enough to sit on a desk. Height matters more than brand.
