It is worth having and not worth blocking a build over. ECC catches memory errors that would otherwise corrupt data silently, which matters most for a large storage pool holding irreplaceable files. If your platform supports it cheaply, take it. If choosing it means halving your capacity budget, take the capacity and keep good backups.
